VOTE LARRY SHAFFER FOR MARATHON CITY COUNCIL Here is Larry Shaffer's Campaign Website for Electing Larry Shaffer to Marathon City Council. Are you tired of the same thing day after day? Former Mayor Randy Mearns used to say that government moves at the pace of a dead snake. I would like to breathe a little life into the snake to pursue and bite the old bubba system. With 8 years in local politics, I can work on your issues. Jobs, economic recovery, save mom-and-pop businesses, and attract new suitable businesses into Marathon. I can work on the annual budget to ensure that safety, health, and environment continue to provide high-quality service to Marathon's residents. Vote for me; I will show you what I can do. http://marathonjournal.us/journal/index.htm#Poll just for fun, a poll of Marathon City Council Races, not scientific or accurate.

$$$ Campaigns need money. Alert! Larry has seen the local economy is coming back but not fast enough. So he started the Larry Shaffer Campaign Contributions Checks for $5. One small way to move the local economy along faster. Please make a check out to Campaign Account of Larry Shaffer. Make sure that your address, phone number, and your job like retired or a city councilperson or people like you. Each human and companies count as a person. Each person may contribute up to $500. I will take $5, $10, $20, whatever you can afford. I like lots of little contributions more than the biggies, but I do take the biggies never fear. See contact info below to arrange check pickup. Thank you for your help and support. Let's get to work on our city! |
This list will continue to grow. Thank you to everyone who has helped in so many different ways. Being listed here does not necessarily show endorsement for Marathon City Council Candidate Larry Shaffer. Again, thank you one & all.

 | | Keep jobs in Marathon for locals, preventing the loss of jobs and stopping jobs from moving out of Marathon. | | | | | Attract suitable new businesses for jobs and get dollars flowing around the city again. Favoring locals in the bidding process helps to add dollars and get them to move around to stimulate the local economy. | | | | | Vacation rentals: They have proven to be self-limiting. They bring tourists and dollars. Don't fix what isn't broken. | | | Spend resident ad valorem dollars [property taxes] wisely and go into austerity measures to save every buck possible without affecting safety, health, and environment. The environment brings tourist dollars. Lobby the county's big spenders to cut their budgets as well as they affect a larger portion of the tax bill. |

Hometown: Marathon Florida Keys Paradise Years in the Keys: Going on 15 years Education: High school, 25-years military, and St. Leo College Occupation or previous occupation: Marathon Florida Keys Journal Publisher Family: I love my three grown children, but twelve grandchildren are much better! Please explain the most pressing issue in your term once elected and/or elaborate on why you decided to run for office/re-election. (Please limit your responses to 100 words.) The city must work on long-term decision-making regarding jobs, economy, and budgeting. Marathon’s next decade is critical to our successful future. Let us put together a job exchange to get all those in Marathon offering jobs connected to all those Marathoners needing a job, locals for locals. Every dollar that stays in the city comes back to us three-fold. Let us collaborate with small mom-and-pop businesses to preserve those businesses and attract suitable new businesses into our city. Let us budget responsibly without endangering safety, health, and environment. I am running for city council to serve all of Marathon’s residents.
